The indefatigable 2020...

No one could possibly foresee the lateral changes the life would bring in when 2019 made way for 2020.

The first week itself spread the news that a virus , which resemble the outer surface of sun, killed a few in Wuhan province of China. A world not even recovered from the new year celebrations didn’t even wink. The virus-till then already named ‘Corona’ had started playing havoc and continued the killing spree in Wuhan. But then who would bother as the world had already seen the even deadlier Anthrax, Ebola, H1N1 blah blah! The rampage continued and wuhan suffered. The highest health monitoring mechanism WHO didn’t even issue a notice. The Chinese government did nothing and the air travel across globe continued unabated exporting the virus with glee.By start of March the virus had already started exposing its teeth and began killing by hundreds in Europe. America was not far to be left behind. The pandemic engulfed almost the entire world. Countries including India took measures and activities came to halt. Today more than 3 lakh people across globe have fallen to covid-19.

As if the pandemic was not enough countries in Asian sub continent faced earthquakes. The northern india shook a number of times. Then as summer ensued locusts started invading agricultural fields. The menace continued unabated and thousands of hectres of crop got devastated. The nature’s fury did not teach humans anything . China struggling with the the deadly virus smelt opportunities and its expansionism saw its invasion in LAC in Ladakh. Its  aggression and unilateral decision to change LAC continues as neither beuracratic nor military talks are yielding results. Monsoon was yet to arrive and join the bandwagon. Floods never seen in decades have been ravaging China. The Yang-tse  river, like a demon, took a devastating path and swept away cities one after another merciley. Landslides in india have become a part of daily news; the rivers especially in Assam , Bihar, Kerala  and MP are in spate and the water released from dams are inundating fields and cities alike.

Eight months of the current year have seen destruction and loss of human lives in unprecedented proportions so far. A vaccine which might work as the proverbial ‘Sanjeevani booty’ to counter the corona virus is a long way to come despite tall promises by governments.

Enough damage has been done to mother nature by the time the year began. Human lust, often comouflaged as innocent endeavour of discovery or exploration, has seen mindless construction of dams, bridges, buildings, barrages , roads and other facilities across globe. Trillions of tonnes of obnoxious gases released in last few decades, invasions of smaller countries by the mightier, mindless aggression , violence, blood sheds and destruction of human rights have made mother nature wake up with fury. It is up for repairs as warnings earlier given in subtle ways did not work.

An inherent question that surfs through mind is should we humans really have adopted the path of mindless tampering with nature in the name of so called developments; or that we never thought of the deadly consequences and costs that would be inflicted on the  entire civilisation as it is on the verge of near annihilation.!! Think we must; act we must, or , who knows whether the lovable cousins of Corona virus, waiting down the  aisle , will join the Centrestage and start showcasing their talent!!
