The Chinese dual game...

The sudden change in the chinese behaviour in Ladakh since May this year has caused enough concerns not only for the indian government but also for the  entire world. Amidst all the speculations that are rife the indian think tank could not decipher what actually could be the reasons for china’s deviation from what is called a settled position to unilaterally change the Line Of Actual Control ( LAC) where tranquility mostly prevailed in the last five decades.

The chinese activities in the Galwan valley or near the finger areas of pangong-tso area  and Depsang plains since May couldn’t be something without any sinister design. A conventional patrolling by troops of either countries in those areas which are considered buffer zones were not uncommon in past. But the chinese attempts to build permanent structures in the LAC by their military is what disturbed the serene atmosphere and the indian apple cart. Despite peace talks at military level in June the chinese troops clashed with the indian counterparts in the Galwan Valley.

This resulted in 20 of our jawans getting martyred even though more than double that number was chinese casualty.

Despite the Galwan incident the talks at military level between the  two countries both at diplomatic or military level did not abate. India, the largest democracy in the world, believes in peace and, therefore, has left all options including the military engagements. What is alluring is that China has so far never shied away from talks but surprisingly  it has maintained its aggression with sole intent to unilaterally change the LAC. Or else, how  one can explain the chinese engagements at Pangong-tso area even after full disengagements at Galwan! The indian stance is crystal clear-no one, how mightier it might be, will be allowed to infringe into the country’s sovereignty. Even though a military option has been kept a last resort India has minced no meat in explaining that it will not hesitate to use brute military force if the talks fail. Indian military is considered one of the most professional and efficient one and the world acknowledges it. The indian military capabilities have been showcased time and again when the situation warranted. That the indian Government at center and the military think tank are working like a well oiled machine is no secret. The question that dwells in mind is why China, despite knowing india’s military power, is still engaged in activities which could be termed as undiplomatic and unsavoury. A well decorated and honourable army doesn’t engage in fisticuffs but China demonstrated it in Galwan valley on 15th June and causing incalculable embarrassment to its reputation.

While chinese treachery is something which india is well aware of its  intentions will surface soon as India is losing its patience fast. What china has done during pandemic after exporting the virus world over is not forgivable. It has put an enormous cost on indian economy by way of forcing Indian government go for a military build up along the entire sino-indian border nurturing  a sinister design that india will crack at sometime or the other. But that’s a pipe dream for the regrettable chinese think tank. China will do better mending its ways and not tamper with india which in 2020 may prove mightier than the former probably could ever think.

A global peace, especially in Asean countries, is the need of the hour as ‘development’ alone is the mantra to sustain that.
