The infamous Saki-Naka incidence-a national shame…

Yess..this time it happened in Mumbai-‘Mumbai meri jaan’. Mumbai-a city that does not sleep; a city that manifests humanity; Mumbai, a city that has seen upheavals which perhaps no other metropolis has ever seen; a city which crawled back to normalcy  in no time whether it was the infamous serial blasts in 1993 or that mindless mayhem on 26 /11; a city where women never ever thought about their security while stepping out of homes, has fallen to disgrace last Friday at Saki Naka. The rape, brutalisation and murder of 32 yrs old woman, a mother of two, has shaken the conscience of  entire city and the country once again. The horrifying act reminds the dastardly Nirbhaya incidence of December 2013.

The Saki Naka incident has shamed the nation once again. At a time when the Government’s *’beti bachao’* initiative has taken momentum, incidence such as this again puts a spoke in the endeavour. It is a matter of concern that despite stricter laws being enforced post Nirbhaya incidence, some mentally deranged rouges still  roam around with impunity and compel us to think that our women are far from being safe.

We all know that in the aftermath of political upheavals and similar milieu the Mumbai incidence too will soon be relegated to nothingness. The poor family will only continue to suffer in silence though.

A country which cannot protect the the dignity or ensure safety of its women, is doomed for sure. The incidence should waken up the administration and society at large from slumber before it is too late. A country where Goddess Durga is worshipped as Mother is now testimony to the fact that its daughters are not safe. What an irony!! Let us all raise our inner voice. The nation cannot witness its daughters as sacrificial lambs before some mentally deranged rouges any more.

A dispassionate analysis will reveal that the Mysogini that exists deep within us and our societal fabric manifested once again in its most brutal, crude  and inhuman form.

Alas it was another "Nirbhaya". My heart has broken a thousand times before. It breaks again. This time I am not angry but ashamed and numbed.

We as a nation have failed to protect the hapless lady. A crippling question that dots our mind is why don't we teach our sons to respect women or atleast consider them as their equals? Why don't we stop rediculing them or hold them inferior?

The oft spoken dicotomy within us prevents us from doing so and at the same time commands us to bow before her in reverance when we see her in a temple or prayer room.

Time has come for some serious soul-searching and introspection; to introspect why women are to be marginalised at the altar of disrespect. The women of this country are not really safe or such incidents can be brushed aside as being statistically insignificant is a question that dwells in every mind.

We all know that the case will be fast-tracked and the perpetrator(s) will be given death. Then will follow the _*“forgiveness is greater than any virtue”_* brigade asking for pardon of the culprit. But till then the family of victim will continue to suffer silently.
